Honoraries, Houses, and School Culture

Veritas launched the Honoraries in 2023 — student societies that each serve the school differently. This presentation explores how honoraries and house programs create leadership opportunities, build school spirit, and develop a curriculum for student government focused on leadership training and discipleship.

Benefits & Takeaways

This proposal is for an interview styled presentation in which Dr. Spanjer will interview Mrs. Rhonda Forbes, architect of the honoraries, and Mr. Adam Timmins, Director of Houses, to present a conversational description of Veritas programs and allow for a more interactive session. The Honoraries have been designed to raise the value of leadership among the student body and push against the cult of mediocrity that seems to have such a profound impact on students in this age. We have seen students who took no interest in serving the school become active and enthusiastic partners with teachers and staff. In addition, our Houses have increasingly been focused on setting higher expectations for our students’s spiritual growth. Service, leadership, and spiritual growth are critical in helping students understand that education is not merely a matter of the mind, but, ultimately, a matter of the heart.
